Next week is a very important week and I want to highlight the critically important tasks that students and families need to take care of in preparation for the first day of virtual classes on Monday August 31.

Dear Pattonville families and staff,
On July 29, I notified the Pattonville community that our schools would start the 2020-2021 school year in phase 3 of in-person learning, which is the 100% virtual format. As I mentioned at that time, the decision was made based on the current health and safety conditions of our community and with input from the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. At that time, all Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) athletics and activities in Pattonville and other 100% virtual school districts were suspended based on the MSHSAA Constitution which prohibited member schools from participating in activities if the school district begins the school year or transitions to entirely virtual instruction.

This is mostly a repeat of the information that I previously sent to you with some minor changes and additions. I have highlighted those items that are new or have been changed.
Computer roll out will take place at PHS during the week of Aug. 24. Aug. 24 through 27 are Express Pickup days for parents and students who have prepaid the insurance cost online ONLY. This will ensure quick and easy laptop distribution. Payment can be made online with credit or debit cards. To prepay for insurance, visit https://www.one2onerisk.com/ and select the option “Enroll My Device.” Follow the procedures listed to enroll your device. After enrollment, reserve your time for pickup at https://www.signupgenius.com/
Device rollout will take place in the main gym of PHS with social distancing measures in place. Parents and students will enter through the commons entrance at PHS and follow signage to the main gym. All staff, students and parents must wear a mask during laptop distribution. As the district continues to plan and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, teachers at Pattonville High School attended an in-person extended learning opportunity today to be trained on Canvas, the new learning management system for students.
The 2020-2021 school year brings many challenges, one of which is a schedule that can accommodate all students and teachers in all phases of learning this year, including students taking Villemade Virtual Courses. Because teachers may be teaching some sections that meet on campus and some sections that meet virtually, it is necessary for all learning phases to follow the same schedule.
Beginning Monday, April 12th we will transition to the pre-pandemic modified block (AABCA) schedule with the return of "early release" Thursdays as shown in the schedule below:

Regardless of whether or not a student is on campus or taking a virtual course, the courses will always begin at the times shown above. Students learning off-campus will be expected to be in a virtual course at the start time by logging into their Canvas courses. Some classes will be conducted entirely though video conference. Other times, teachers may need to work with small groups of students and assign independent work after the class check-in, instructions, and attendance are complete.
Students learning off-campus may want to utilize timers or reminder apps on phones or their school devices to remind them when the "bell" is about to "ring," to help them be punctual. It is best if students can join their virtual courses a couple minutes early.
Pattonville High School announced and recognized the school’s Top 10 seniors based on grade point averages during the graduation ceremony on July 16 at The Family Arena. The high school presented the Top 10 seniors with T-shirts from the universities they will attend after graduation. These students have grade point averages (GPAs) that fall between a 4.5 and a 4.8 on a 5-point weighted scale.
