Remington gives reading the red carpet treatment with Bookcademy Awards

Remington Traditional School students and staff celebrated their love of reading by hosting the school's first Bookcademy Awards ceremony. Classes nominated books they read for recognition in a number of categories and the school voted on winners, which were announced at the all-school Bookcademy Awards ceremony. Students and staff were encouraged to dress as their favorite book characters and walk the red carpet in the school gym.

The event capped off the school’s Classroom Book A Day program, which is part of a national movement to read one picture book a day in each classroom for the entire school year. #bookaday is an active, online community that celebrates books and supporting each other as readers. Educators connect with one another using the #bookaday hastag on Twitter and other social media to share book ideas and engage with authors.

“The important part of the Classroom Book A Day and Bookcademy Awards are these students and how they connected with the 180-plus picture books we read this year,” said Remington library technology specialist Allison Stout.
